A Wesfarmers Company
In 2001, Blackwoods proudly became a member of the iconic Australian group, Wesfarmers. The largest business of the Wesfarmers Industrial and Safety Division, Blackwoods was a natural addition to the group's mining, gas, agricultural and hardware businesses.
Wesfarmers began in June 1914 as the Westralian Farmers Co-operative and for most of its early history was primarily involved with the provision of services and merchandise to Western Australia's rural community.
Seventy years later, with the farmers co-operative as the majority shareholder, Wesfarmers Limited listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in November 1984. Since that time Wesfarmers has consistently been ranked in the top group of Australian companies when measured in terms of total shareholder return.
For more information about Wesfarmers visit www.wesfarmers.com.au
Wesfarmers Industrial and Safety (which includes Blackwoods, as a division of Wesfarmers Limited, is responsible for setting its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander strategy, and WIS’ policy operates in line with the Wesfarmers reconciliation objective, being:
To ensure that our businesses are places where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people feel welcome and valued, as employees and team members, customers, suppliers of products and services, and citizens.
WIS encourages the diversity of its supply base, and actively seeks to identify opportunities for suitable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander owned and certified businesses to develop partnerships within its supply chain.
WIS engages both customers and potential Indigenous suppliers to bring competitiveness, innovation and value to its supply chain, including, as Founding Member of Supply Nation www.supplynation.org.au, consulting the Supply Nation Supplier List for potential partners.
WIS monitors its progress on its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander strategy and reports in the annually published Sustainability Report.
Community & The Fred Hollows Foundation
Blackwoods’ engagement and support of Indigenous communities and programs across Australia, in a number of different ways, is a key component of our Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Strategy and the broader Wesfarmers Reconciliation Action Plan. Customers, suppliers and members of the Blackwoods team have been responsible for generating over $500,000 in total cash donations directly allocated to improving remote Aboriginal health. By selecting products from the unique Blackwoods Foresight range customers can also trigger much needed donations which positively impact on the lives and communities of Aboriginal people.
